I looked down at her as I slowly woke up. She was perfect for me. I’d always known it, but especially now. She was slowly and beautifully sucking her thumb.

After we’d caught our breath in the kitchen, I’d followed her directions, laughing and carrying her to the bedroom.

When I’d thrown the door open, I wasn’t surprised that she had a number of stuffed animals and toys. Her room was light pink with dainty details.

The bed was fit for a princess, with a lacy comforter and soft pillows. There were sheer draperies hanging down from the top of it, making it seem exotic and isolated.
